I’m wearing a little pin today that says “Live like you’re part of a bigger story.” I got it at Vacation Bible School. It reminds me why I love to work with children. They are the next generation – the next chapter in the bigger story.
I love how children think. They ask questions. They want to know why. They want to know how. They don’t sugar-coat anything. They keep me on my toes and require me to really think and not give rote answers.
Children will also let me know when I mess up. They will tell me when I’m wrong. They notice everything I do – and want to know what I am eating.
They walk in our shadows and mimic our words and actions. And then they carry it to the next generation that they lead.
I know there are little children praying for me right now. Their parents are guiding them in prayers for our family. How humbling it is to know that a little child is praying for me.
They are praying specifically. They are praying for things I’ve never thought about. One child told me, “I’m praying for you to not get sicker – cuz you’re already pretty sick”. Pick me up off the floor now and hand me a tissue.
The bigger story is being formed right before my eyes. The generations to come are being created and we get to be a part of their story. I want to remember to live like I’m part of God’s bigger story.
It’s not about me just living my life as I please. Children need to see me live well. Suffer well. Worship well. Forgive well. Apologize well. Not give up well. Wait well. Pray well. Love well.
Lord, how humbling it is to know that I get to be a part of future generations. Not because of who I am, but because of what you are doing in my life. Your plans are multi-generational, desiring to not leave anyone behind. Thank you for being the author of the Big Story.
Each day what you share is exactly what I need to be reminded of. It has been such a blessing to serve with you at VBS this week.
Hi Kelly! Courtney just sent me the link to your blog. I will pray and pray and fervently pray for you! We are just down the road if you need ANYTHING!
This passage jumped out at me this morning:
“When my anxious thoughts
multiply within me,
Your consolations delight my soul.”
Psalm 94:19
In the love of Jesus forever! <
