“Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth.” Colossians 3:2
I’m a list maker. I like schedules and charts and lists. And yes, I am one of those crazy people who lists the extra job that was done just so I can check it off.
My schedule these days is pretty full of doctor’s appointments and medical tests and phone calls about doctor’s appointments and medical tests – not to mention insurance hullabaloo.
At times it feels like I am living in a parallel universe while the rest of the world goes about its regular activities. What helps me keep a proper perspective is to look at every appointment and phone call as a divine appointment.
It is something God has been teaching me lately and He has been setting me up. He has been preparing each encounter ahead of time for me. All I have to do is show up or make the phone call. I don’t have to wonder what to say or how to be a light for Him. People come right out and ask me why I have a smile on my face when I didn’t realize I was smiling.
Well. . . since they asked. . . I just tell them my story of how God has given me peace and joy through this. I tell them I am not afraid because I have a personal relationship with Jesus, God’s son, and He is taking care of everything. Sometimes I even let them in on a secret – they get to be a part of God’s plan for me too!
Sometimes I get an agreeable nod and sometimes a blank stare but God will use my testimony however He pleases.
Lord, you are the keeper of my calendar. You give me divine appointments where I just show up and get to see how you will work. Forgive me for the times I’ve missed the appointment. Where I showed up on time, but wasn’t looking for the divine. For I know that when I am looking up and out, I don’t have time to look down at myself and wallow in self-pity or fear.
Lord, you are the keeper of my calendar. Every moment is precious. Help me make the most of every opportunity. I want to obey you by showing love and kindness and hospitality. I know you will use my efforts for your glory.
